Nakeitra Burse, DrPH, MS, CHES
Dr. Nakeitra L. Burse, is the Grant Writer for JSU’s School of Public Health. She has been a servant in the field of public health for over ten years. Dr. Burse has a passion for serving others and developing innovative approaches to respond to the public health needs of underserved communities.
Dr. Burse holds a B.S in Biological Sciences and an M.S in Health Education/Health Promotion from Mississippi State University. She also holds a Doctorate in Public Health from Jackson State University. Dr. Burse is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) as well as a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Instructor.
Over the course of her career, she has had the opportunity to work in several capacities within the state of Mississippi and across the United States. Dr. Burse has worked across various sectors such as nonprofit, government agencies, and academic institutions. She has worked in such areas as sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, adult and childhood obesity, and cultural competency and health equity. Prior to JSU she served as the Director of Community-Based Programs for My Brother’s Keeper, Inc. In this position she directed over seventeen (17) federal, private, and foundation funded programs.
Dr. Burse has always been dedicated to the health, wellness and strengthening of underserved communities. She considers herself to be a servant and a philanthropist who is understanding and empathetic of the issues facing minority communities.
